It breaks my heart...

Sabem que não resisto a estes temas. Sabem que sou pelo amor e pela harmonia. Sou pelas pessoas, pelas famílias, por quem só quer estar bem e em paz. Estes existem, na Califórnia, são casados, mas agora vão ver os seus casamentos anulados por gente que não vai ganhar absolutamente nada com isso.

A Proposition 8 é aberrante.

Para quem não sabe, «The Proposition 8 was a California ballot proposition in the November 4, 2008, general election. It changed the state Constitution to restrict the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples and eliminated same-sex couples' right to marry, thereby overriding portions of the ruling of In re Marriage Cases».

Também conhecida por "Limit on Marriage. Constitutional Amendment", muitos são os que defendem que a emenda foi inconstitucional, que nem devia poder ser sufragada. Mas o Supremo Tribunal fez orelhas moucas. «On July 16, 2008, the California Supreme Court denied a petition calling for the removal of Proposition 8 from the November ballot. The petition asserted the proposition should not be on the ballot on the grounds it was a constitutional revision that only the Legislature or a constitutional convention could place before voters».

Agora um pouco de trivia...

«Republican presidential nominee and U.S. Senator John McCain released a statement of support for the proposed constitutional amendment». Ainda bem que não ganhou a Presidência!

Já agora, quem inventou a Proposition 8 foi uma organização chamada "ProtectMarriage.com". Que agora ficou com o casamento muito bem protegidinho contra, sei lá, as cheias, os incêndios florestais, a formiga-cupim e o míldio...

Já o nosso amigo «Barack Obama stated that he personally considers marriage to be between a man and woman, and supports civil unions that confer comparable rights rather than gay marriage, but stated that he opposed the proposition and other attempts to amend the federal and state constitutions».

O assunto não fica por aqui. «After the election, demonstrations and protests occurred across the state and nation. Numerous lawsuits were filed with the California Supreme Court by same-sex couples and government entities, challenging the proposition's validity and effect on previously administered same-sex marriages. The court is expected to listen to oral arguments and reach a holding on March 5, 2009». As alegações finais de 5 de Março darão lugar a uma decisão do Supremo Tribunal, regra geral emitida 90 dias depois.

E nós por cá? Como é? Estamos à espera de ver quando é que a igualdade de direitos é finalmente assumida e instituída em Portugal!
